It’s hard to believe that Urgent will be 6 years old this June. What started as a small Facebook page, has grown into something that none of us imagined. We are not just a Facebook page anymore… we are a 501c3 with a growing presence on so many other sites, such as Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, as well as thousands of weekly hits on our website.
The recent Facebook changes made us think long and hard about the direction we wanted to take. We realized that we need to stop thinking of Facebook as our main platform. Facebook changes their format so often, always forcing us to playing catch up to make sure that our dogs and cats are uploaded and on the site. Facebook decided that if we moved a photo to a new album, the link wold become broken and all the previous shares would be lost. Facebook also made it harder to not only reach our fans, but to reach those that still don’t know about the homeless pet crisis in NYC. The “icing on the cake” was when Facebook recently started deleting threads because they felt the content was unsecure. We are not sure how they decided that a Youtube video was a threat, but they did, and without warning started deleting entire threads. When that happened, we knew that we needed to secure our posts outside of Facebook and away from their reach.
Welcome to our new website!! It took months to build, and thanks to Bolddogge Interactive (an absolutely amazing web designer and site builder,) we are so proud of the result. Starting TODAY, all animals will be “stored” on our site and the information will be fed to all the social media platforms. The content will remain the same, and we will still have all the albums that everyone has grown accustomed to. The “TBD list” will continue to be posted nightly on all social media sites, and will have it’s own slide show on our new website! Other improvements include an album of animals in foster care, a search bar to make it easy to find whichever dog you are following, and one-click connection with the Urgent help desk on every thread.
We are confident that you will come to LOVE the new format, and the individual dog and cat posts. We still have a few minor adjustments to make, but you can now find all the information easily, without the worry of broken links or deleted threads.
Starting today, we will NOT be loading the animals to Facebook, Twitter, or any of the other sites. Every post will be shared from our new website. We encourage you to share and comment on our site, because it will reach far beyond the Facebook community. If you have any questions or issues, please use the EMAIL URGENT at the bottom of each page.
We know this major change will take some time to get used to, but we feel strongly that everyone will come to love it. We want to thank you for your patience and cooperation as we make the final edits, and as always, we thank you for supporting our NYC Death Row Animals!
**WE WILL STILL BE SHARING THE LISTS ON FACEBOOK, EVERY DAY. EACH ANIMAL WILL BE POSTED TO THE FB WALL. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT WHEN YOU CLICK ON THEIR PICTURE, IT WILL TAKE YOU TO THE WEBSITE POST FOR THAT ANIMAL, NOT A FACEBOOK PICTURE**
