***WEBSITE UPDATE SCHEDULED FOR LATE FRIDAY NIGHT – APRIL 24th***
We want to take a moment to thank all those that have supported our move from Facebook. It has been a slow process, but we feel the end results will be worth the stress we are all currently feeling. We are trying to work with everyone and tweak what we can, but we ask the same in return.
Due to the heavy traffic on our site, which has been slowing it down considerably, we will be moving to a larger service plan with a dedicated server. The hosting company wants to do the move *LATE TONIGHT.* During that time, we may experience some down time. Please be patient and know that it is scheduled maintenance and you could always share the animals from our Facebook/Twitter/Google+/Pinterest pages.
**After the switch is complete, it could take up to 72 hours for the IP information to update worldwide. It is possible that you may be sent to either the new or old IP during this time. This is not something we can control. The move was necessary and it will NOT change your ability to share the animals. The only problem you *may* have is that you could see old information when visiting the site during that time. If that happens, you were directed to the old server.**
While we are transitioning, we will also be switching our comment plugin from Disqus to LiveFyre. We’ve been testing it out and feel that the Facebook community will have an easier time navigating. Some of the Livefyre features are:
One click log in, using your Facebook, Twitter, Google+ accounts.
Livefyre *should* download comment history from Facebook and Twitter. After 48 hours, all Facebook/Twitter comments, from all threads, will appear on the website comment thread for that animal. This will make it easier for those collecting pledges or following conversations on individual dogs/cats. The 48 hours is a Livefyre rule and we can not negotiate anything faster.
You will have the option to receive Email alerts when someone replies to your comments and/or adds new comments to a thread. This feature could help alert rescues that are following an animal, to potential fosters/adopters. Anyone can also set up individual alerts for animals they want to follow.
You will be able to tag Twitter users, or people that have commented previously (Facebook does not allow off site tagging unless the Facebook user comments first.)
Livefyre offers easier picture uploads and is more compatible with Iphones.
We will also be changing the Share/Like plugin on the website. It will show shares yet will still have multiple sharing options (buttons). We encourage people to use the folders (on the website) to navigate, comment and share the animals.
Once maintenance is done on the site, we will begin working on other features. Soon, we hope to have a pledge tracker/alert system, a “TBD List” phone app… and hopefully, with the rescues’ cooperation, a universal adoption/foster app.
In order to achieve these goals, we really need everyone’s cooperation. We need to reach more people. We need to get past the sharing/reach restrictions on Facebook. We can grow our network and alert more people to our homeless pet crisis, but we need everyone to work together and try to support the changes.
