An Urgent Crew Member sent this to us yesterday. Her comment was “Why are they (the ACC) taking an adversarial relationship toward Urgent when you’re doing their job for them and really should be on salary?”
It seems that our friends at the NYC ACC have decided to post this wonderful “warning” about Urgent and other sites that are trying to assist our Death Row Animals… Read it, laugh a bit, and then read on for my comments. We really think that juLIE needs to wake up and join the rest of us in the real world…
Animals on AC&C’s At-Risk Animal List (http://www.nycacc.org/adopt.htm)
As part of our proactive efforts to place animals into loving homes, AC&C produces a list each night of animals that are most at risk of euthanasia. In general, the animals on this list include animals with a contagious disease, a medical condition that our shelter is unable to provide the resources to manage or cure, or a behavioral challenge that will require training. This list is meant for our New Hope partners not the general public. AC&C’s New Hope program is a proactive effort to provide placement for and transfer animals from our care center to partner organizations and groups. Please click here to view our New Hope Page. We currently have over 150 partners and are always looking for more. We e-mail this list each night to our approved New Hope partners who are actively working within their systems to find foster homes and other placement opportunities for those animals. We encourage any organized group who is a 501(c) to join our New Hope program. There is a system in place for the New Hope partners to receive this list and to notify AC&C by 6am following the release of the list. At that point, AC&C staff removes the animals from the at-risk list and schedules them for needed medical procedures such as microchipping or spay/neuter surgery, and coordinates transport to the New Hope group. AC&C also has its own internal quality controls and monitors this list nightly and removes animals if circumstances require. Between the New Hope program and AC&C’s internal controls, many animals are removed from the list, placed and not euthanized.
Because the New Hope program and process works, many of the animals that were originally placed on the list are saved. Nearly 17,000 animals were placed due to this life-saving program in 2010!
Recently, there have been a growing number of web sites and Facebook pages not affiliated with or monitored by AC&C that have been highlighting this list for many to see without an accurate explanation of the New Hope program or AC&C’s processes. Unfortunately, this has created a situation where inaccurate information may be promoted and individuals believe animals are going to be euthanized when they are actually saved as described previously. These non-affiliated web sites have also created a situation where individuals have called to inquire about the availability of these animals and have not been able to communicate with AC&C regarding their adoption interest because these sites are providing incorrect contact information. Furthermore, many potential adopters have communicated with us about their interest but have not followed through with what they said they would do (i.e.; offer of donation, actually coming in to adopt the pet, etc). We refer to these as Fake Pulls and the result is that these false communications clog the system making it difficult or impossible to manage other valid communication. Many animals on the at-risk list that are not placed with New Hope partners can be saved if there are legitimate adopters for them. Others need to be released to New Hope partners only who can provide the resources to address medical and/or behavioral condition prior to adoption to a permanent home.
Please remember that you can see pictures of animals and adopt an animal that is not on our at-risk at any time, thereby preventing them for getting on the list in the first place (please see our Adoptions Home Page). Also, as a reminder, animals that are on the at-risk list are generally there because of a health or behavior concern and you will be required to take responsibility for the animal’s treatment if you proceed with your inquiry. Please note that AC&C reserves the right to deny any adoption and will proceed with decisions when it is in the best interest of an animal or shelter.
If you are still interested in adopting one of the animals that you see on-line please send an e-mail to [email protected]. Please note that due to the high volume of inquiries and lack of sufficient staff, AC&C is not able to take calls from the public regarding the at-risk list. All inquiries must be done on-line by e-mailing to the address above.
Did you laugh as hard as we did?
“As part of our proactive efforts to place animals into loving homes, AC&C produces a list each night of animals that are most at risk of euthanasia.” – “Most At Risk??” Yes, we guess you could call them MOST at risk when they are going to be killed in 12 hours. Every animal in your “shelter” is “at-risk.” Call it what it is juLIE… it is the list of animals that the ACC plans on KILLING the next day, unless someone calls and pulls them (or you suddenly “realize” that the animal does not belong on the list, was placed there due to employee error, and it is lucky enough to be removed, and not ignored, when brought to their attention).
“Animals on this list include animals with a contagious disease, a medical condition that our shelter is unable to provide the resources to manage or cure, or a behavioral challenge that will require training” – MOST of the animals on the list have KENNEL COUGH or URI’s that they catch AT THE ACC!! Diseases the ACC (and its filth) gives to them. Kennel cough takes about 2 weeks to cure with inexpensive antibiotics. And seriously juLIE, you kill animals for being scared and timid… that is NOT a behavioral problem that will require training… they just need to get out of the shelter environment. Again, call it what it is… you KILL for space. Period. Anyone who knows anything about ACC, most of all your employees, knows it. Everyone, that is, except for you. Why is that? Hmmmm, juLIE?
“AC&C’s New Hope program is a proactive effort to provide placement for and transfer animals from our care center to partner organizations and groups.” – juLIE, juLIE, juLIE… your “New Hope” program should be called “No Hope.” Especially when pleas are not sent to your NH Partners until the animal is on the list… which is ohhhhh, 98% of the time. Even then, they only send pleas for their favorites… RARELY does anyone try to place these animals with partners BEFORE the list comes out…. Oh wait, you do have 1 staff member that works 5 days a week yet sends generic pleas ONCE A WEEK and about 30 minutes before her “weekend” starts. So, the partners get hit with 20 or so emails, all within 5 minutes, and they become overwhelmed. Isn’t that called spamming?!?! GREAT JOB!
“Because the New Hope program and process works, many of the animals that were originally placed on the list are saved. Nearly 17,000 animals were placed due to this life-saving program in 2010!” – OK, we had to LMFAO here… “because the New Hope program works??” juLIE… please stop patting yourself on the back for a moment (or do you have people on your payroll that do it for you? Maybe Elisabeth?). What about the countless dogs and cats that were saved because people saw the animal posted on sites like Urgent and PODR?!? Social Networking!! Do you really believe that one woman drove from NC, and another from Canada (just to name a few), because they happened to stumble onto the ACC website? What about the husband in Arizona who hopped a plane to adopt… or the one from Florida? Seriously?!? Come on juLIE… PLEASE WAKE UP!!
“Recently, there have been a growing number of web sites and Facebook pages not affiliated with or monitored by AC&C that have been highlighting this list for many to see without an accurate explanation of the New Hope program or AC&C’s processes.” Ummm juLIE, are you talking about us? We think we have explained your processes very well. We are offended. List comes out at 6. New Hope staff is usually already gone. Front desk usually can not or will not answer phones. MAD DASH to save lives before 6AM when shelter does not even open until 8 am. Is that not right?
“…This has created a situation where inaccurate information may be promoted and individuals believe animals are going to be euthanized when they are actually saved as described previously.” – “inaccurate information”… all information “promoted” is what we get from you and we have to say, lately the “information” is really lacking… any real information! Animals are now being intaken with a behavior rating of “none,” not being evaluated and not having a bio written. Basically, the only info you are giving is their weight (sometimes guessed), and that they have signs/symptoms of a URI. As far as falsely stating that animals are going to be “euthanized”… It is a EUTH LIST juLIE!! The animals WILL BE DESTROYED if no one pulls! Should we not “promote” the animal just because one of your 150 partners MAY have called in a pull? Why don’t YOU advertise this “at risk” list and update once animals are removed? You can call the “list” whatever majickal name you want, but it is still a list of largely ADOPTABLE animals that WILL BE KILLED IF NO ONE SAVES THEM! We KNOW the reason you avoid actually stepping foot into the shelter buildings at all costs is because then YOU are FINALLY confronted with the reality that YOU — your decisions, your policies — KILL thousands of adoptable animals each and every year. No, Jules… those are not bricks in those cages, but living beings. Living beings YOU, your delusional thinking and absurd policies, are failing.
“These non-affiliated web sites have also created a situation where individuals have called to inquire about the availability of these animals and have not been able to communicate with AC&C regarding their adoption interest because these sites are providing incorrect contact information.” – What is the proper contact info juLIE? Where is the call center? What if it is after 5? Why is it so hard to answer phones at the shelter? Are you just upset that we give out your email addresses now? Tell us Jules, when the list comes out at 6, how is the average non-rescue person supposed to get in touch with anyone. Do tell…
Fake Pulls – You know Urgent speaks out very strongly against fake pulls. No argument from us on that one. Though we do not feel that these sites are responsible for the fake rescue pulls. You must look WITHIN to resolve that one (and that is all I am going to say). Wow juLIE, did we just agree on something?!?
“Also, as a reminder, animals that are on the at-risk list are generally there because of a health or behavior concern and you will be required to take responsibility for the animal’s treatment if you proceed with your inquiry” – Once again juLIE, so many animals are on the list for ridiculous reasons. Way to try and scare the public away!!! Many (not all) of your behavior concerns and illnesses vanish once the animal leaves the shelter (if the issues were ever there at all). You really need to just post on the ACC site “All our animals are diseased and could hurt you! We know what we are doing so please just let us KILL as many as possible.”‘
We hope you all thought that was as amusing as we did!!
We would just like to leave off with a few thoughts. First of all, juLIE and crew lied when Emily was fired. They said that they had staff to take pics and write bios… Call us crazy, but aside from a few volunteers taking pics, are we the only one that has noticed the decline in good pics and information? Are we the only ones that have noticed the lack of Manhattan pleas being sent out? juLIE… when will you admit that you fired the wrong person and when will you get a competent person to fill her shoes? You keep adding staff to your budget but I have yet to see any increase in advocacy or care. How many dogs didn’t get walked today juLIE? How many did? What percentage is that? And, how is that new security camera system working out for you? How many dog walkers could have been hired with that money? Hmmm. You keep firing VOLUNTEERS that were assets and should have been on the payroll. Do you even like animals? Do you want these pets to have a second chance?
The ACC is not getting better. juLIE and crew can post whatever they want on their webpage. They can say it til they are blue in the face. WE KNOW that it is nothing more than LIES. juLIE seems to be real good at spinning anything to make herself look better, but she is not fooling us. We pray that she is not fooling you either.
Want to show the world how you feel about these lies? Check this out 🙂
