URGENT FUNDRAISER!!!
Tonic Bar and Lounge, 727 7th Avenue, New York, New York, is hosting The First Annual Urgent Pets on Death Row Fundraiser to benefit the dogs and cats within the New York City Animal Care and Control (NYC AC&C) system, on Saturday, August 25th, 2012, from 7pm to 11pm.
Urgent Pets on Death Row (Urgent) is an all-volunteer, 501c3 charity, founded in 2010 to advocate for the thousands of adoptable dogs and cats that are needlessly destroyed each year by Animal Care & Control of New York City. Urgent supporters believe that all dogs and cats surrendered to AC&C for any reason deserve compassionate, professional care, and a sustained effort to place them in new homes.
Karen Pepp, Urgent’s founder, who now manages a team of several dozen volunteers, describes the group’s origins, during her early days in animal rescue. “While making a routine call to the city shelter for status, I was asked if I had seen ‘the list’ last night. I said ‘What list?’ I had it sent it to me, and I think I stared at it for what seemed an eternity, trying to wrap my mind around it. It was a list of 30 dogs, all being killed by the AC&C. They died unknown and rejected, the castaways of society – a society of individuals like me – people who just ‘did not know.’ At that moment, I decided that I was going to save as many as possible, and I was going to do it by posting them on every forum I could think of. Urgent was born that day.
Tickets are available at the door for $40.00, and virtual tickets are available for those who would like to donate, but are unable to attend. All proceeds benefit dogs and cats who have gone through the AC&C system, or who are still waiting for fosters or adopters. All fundraiser proceeds will go towards supporting the needs of the animals of the AC&C.
Ticket price includes a buffet, and the event will offer raffles, door prizes, and drink specials from 7pm through 11pm. Drink Specials will include a $5 “Cosmo~Paw~litan,” and 100% of the proceeds from the signature drinks will go to Urgent.
Attendees are asked to bring “wishing well” gifts like chew bones, treats and toys which will be delivered directly to the animals at the AC&C.
Urgent supports have already donated thousands of dollars worth of goods, including blankets, toys and treats through an Amazon.com gift registry, in honor of this event.
