If you are long distance and cannot go to the shelter in person, you will also need to look into transport and boarding. The animals must leave the shelter within a day or two. If a dog has kennel cough, (and many do), they may not be able to get the required health certificate to travel across state lines. Again, this is not the rescue’s job… it is your job to call boarding facilities in NY that will take dogs from the ACC. Call and see if they have room and contact transport groups to see if they service your area.

Don’t Send an Animal to a Stranger
Lastly, as wonderful as our “Urgent” community is, please do not ask strangers on Facebook to foster an animal for you. You wouldn’t send your kid to a “Facebook friend’s” house for an extended visit. The fact is, unless you know someone OFF of Facebook, you really don’t know them… Better safe than sorry!
Please remember that Urgent is NOT a New Hope Partner. We cannot and do not pull animals from the shelter nor can we tell rescues who or when to adopt to someone.
