TO ALL WHO REQUEST A PULL: These animals are EUTH LISTED. Which means that a person has to be ABSOLUTELY SURE when they make an offer. The shelter requires that the rescues assume …responsibility for the animals once they pull-and once pulled, they want this cat OUT. Rescues cannot have someone backing out AFTER the pull-this creates a huge problem. Even with the illnesses, we only know what the shelter tells us.
ALL: You have to be prepared for the UNKNOWN when you request a pull! I have advised Karen to perhaps take into consideration who she pulls for b/c people cannot ask her to pull and when she does to be helpful, get stuck with cats afterwards. NOR can she be stuck with cats whose vet bills are not fully paid-and she now has to pay all balances (SHAME ON THOSE OF YOU WHO DID THIS TO HER). This is happening too much to her! Karen is a ONE WOMAN SHOW and cannot pick up for everyone’s slack. Nor should any rescue.
If you promise to donate, you should. Not just offer and then disappear once the cat is pulled. Rescues are relying on those donations. It costs MONEY to VET, BOARD, treat, ect. If you say you are self supporting, you should be-not just to get the cat but forever.
You must be a SELF SUPPORTING foster or adopter who can afford all vet bills OR if a chip in falls short of a vet bill, you must be responsible for that amount! NOT walk away and stick the rescue with the bill. This is not fair to do to the animal or the rescue. This actually prevents rescues from being willing to help in the future and Karen, who has always helped us when we need her, perhaps will have to start saying no b/c of all the flaking and dumping of cats and vet bills back on her. It is not right.
So perhaps good intentioned people will have to be told no in the future b/c of the mistakes of others. We often do not know how sick an animal is or things develop after the pull. Rescues and PODR only know what the shelter tells us. SO BE PREPARED for this when you offer.
IT IS NOT HELPFUL for you to offer to ‘save a life’-and then DUMP back on a rescue after the pull is called in. This now means that rescues have to find a place for the cat and it is not going to allow them to pull more until they do. THIS type of behavior is why PODR has to be strict at times and also why rescues are only approving in advance and pulling for who they know. THE DUMPING back on the rescues HAS GOT to STOP or I personally will only advocate for the pulling of animals for people who are preapproved as legitimate.
–Update: Fosters are STILL BAILING.UNDER NO CONDITIONS DO NOT OFFER UNLESS YOU HAVE CONSIDERED-family, work/travel commitments, possibly moving, landlord issues, finances. DO NOT OFFER UNLESS you plan to keep this cat forever and you have considered all of the above, plus any additional concerns that may arise. DO NOT put the rescue in a position of having to find a home for this animal b/c YOU did not think everything through.
–DO NOT GIVE A CAT AWAY THAT WAS PULLED FOR YOU AS FOSTER OR ADOPTER!!!* YOU MUST GIVE THE CAT BACK TO THE RESCUE TO RE-HOME. DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF! RESCUES NEED TO ACCOUNT FOR ALL THE CATS THEY PULL TO THE ACC AND THEIR OWN OPERATIONS. DO NOT DO THIS. YOU CAN ENDANGER THEIR PULLING RIGHTS AND BE PODR BLOCKED.
