Kintaro was on last night’s “kill list.” He was an emaciated scared little guy, but still managed to have a great rating so he was available for public adoption. This morning, he was reserved by a “member of the public.” Tonight, he is DEAD.
We have some HUGE issues with this:
The ACC decided that the MOP was fake, but how can they be sure? What did they do to help him, once they realized he was still in danger? Since when are animals punished for having idiots reserve them? Why are the animals penalized when an adopter is rejected? How hard is it for the AC&C to send an email to NH rescues, and ask for assistance? Why can’t they tell the rescues that the animal was “fake reserved,” and give the rescues until the end of day to pull?
We have asked the AC&C to do this, but it seems they can’t be bothered. They just don’t CARE, and fail to understand that these are LIVES they’re playing with. One small action on their part, could save so many. Instead, the AC&C quietly removes the “reserve” and they kill the animal, just like they killed Kintaro today.
If the MOP was fake, I hope they realize that they killed a dog today. Why did they kill him? The FAKE MOP killed him because a rescue was going to pull, but saw him reserved at 12pm. We hope whoever it was, feels real good about that.
Again and again, the AC&C PROVES that they do not care about NYC’s homeless animals. When will they start employing people that want to help these dogs and cats? When will they start CARING? It’s time to clean house, and start hiring real advocates that will make an effort to do more. I think the animals deserve that. Don’t you?
**UPDATE** Since we reported this story, another rescue has come forward to say that they did indeed email the AC&C this morning, but the email went unanswered. Kintaro should still be alive. EPIC AC&C FAIL, but Kintaro paid with his life.
