Dear Julie Bank,
We are a bit hurt you haven’t responded to our last letter to you. So, we’ve decided to make this a series of letters to you — you who say “it’s too painful” to go to the shelter. Well, if you won’t go, and your staff won’t go, someone should fill you in on current events, right?
This story takes place today at the Brooklyn shelter, where there have only been three sightings of you since you started at ACC. We’ll cut to the chase: your staff killed the wrong dog in Brooklyn today. A dog named Jan (A898091), a unique-looking 2 year-old Staffordshire mix, was on the list for Kennel Cough that she caught while in your substandard, understaffed facility. As you can see from the screenshot, Jan is labeled as being killed at 11:45AM today, June 6, 2011.
Except she wasn’t. Jan is very much alive, and here are pictures of her sent by two concerned citizens who saw her this evening to prove it. Now the question we know all too well to ask is, What Dog Did You Kill In Her Place?
This question should not come as a surprise to you Julie, because as you know, an employee named S*** killed the wrong dog on two occasions last year. You and Dr. Stephanie Janezcko were informed in numerous emails that the same man was responsible, and you did nothing (we have the emails to prove it). You allowed this employee to continue performing “euthanasia”, and he was only fired months later for failing a drug test. This might be a good time to let you know that we received an email sent to you from a citizen of Harlem alleging drug use by your Manhattan shelter staff. You have not tested the staff members named in the email, and all the people mentioned work in the Medical department. Urgent will be publishing that email shortly, because you ignored it.
So Julie, will you be making a surprise trip to the Brooklyn shelter yourself to examine the freezer full of dogs and figure out who you killed by mistake? Will you do what any reputable organization would do and own up to your mistake? Remember the Afghanistan war hero dog recently killed by mistake by a shelter in Arizona? (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40214260/ns/health-pet_health/t/hero-dog-afghanistan-mistakenly-killed/). You might want to read that article for a PR lesson in how a shelter manager should react under these circumstances. We wouldn’t want you to repeat your recent network television performance and bitterly discourage adoptions. The last time the ACC killed the wrong dog by mistake, this page was only watched by a concerned few and your employees simply covered up the criminal malpractice. Now, the eyes of the nation’s shelter world are watching, as are newspapers and network news. We demand an investigation, and for the people responsible to be immediately fired. Perhaps you’ll even take it upon yourself to grace the Brooklyn shelter with your presence during the investigation. You might even try walking a dog, since their time is very limited, and clearly could be killed at any moment.
Sincerely,
Urgent
P.S. – For Jan’s original thread, see below. Julie, please make sure that the staff keeps Jan ALIVE. Remember, everyone is watching.
