2012 is getting off to a busy start here at Urgent. As many noticed, we have introduced videos as a new way to share our dogs and cats on the “TO BE DESTROYED” list. We are hoping that the videos will reach more people and move them to join in our fight. We are not sure if the videos will be done nightly, or as time permits, and are actively looking for new “Urgent Team Members” to assist with this new and extremely important task. If you have a few hours to spare, please consider signing up!

Urgent Death Row Dogs is now on Ebay!! Did you know that if you sell an item on Ebay, you could donate a portion to Urgent Death Row Dogs?!? You could earmark as little as 10% or as much as 100% of the proceeds, and Ebay takes care of the rest! What an easy way to support our cause! To find out more, please visit our Ebay page: http://donations.ebay.com/charity/charity.jsp?NP_ID=51988
Next weekend (January 21st) is the “Hope for New York Shelter Animals: Meeting the Challenge” conference in NYC. Urgent is excited to be sending several team members to the event, and we are looking forward to hearing Nathan Winograd speak and share his ideas. I was told the event is sold out but was happy to hear that many in the Urgent community will be there. We look forward to finally meeting many of you!! It is always great to meet the people that we spend so much time with on-line every night.
Click To Zen
2012 also marks the start of a new and exciting relationship between Urgent and “Click To Zen.” For those who don’t know, Click To Zen is a training and rehabilitation center, located in upstate NY. It is owned and operated by Alyson Rice and Patrick Danforth. They both have huge hearts and an amazing ability to connect with animals. They reached out to offer their assistance with our dogs in NY. For the past few months, we have been discussing ideas and sent select dogs to their center for care and training. Many have been following the stories of Anara, Teddy, and Mary. Each arrived with their own “story” and all are thriving in Alyson and Patrick’s care. Within the next few weeks, 2 more former Death Row Dogs will be arriving at Click To Zen, and I am anxious to share their stories with you!
We all remember Selena. She was at the Manhattan ACC and found herself on death row this past summer. Amsterdog Rescue pulled for a foster, but the foster never showed up and Selena was left in boarding for almost 6 months. Sitting in a cage with very little human interaction and no friends to play with took its toll on poor Selena, and she now needs to relearn how to be a part of society again. Selena arrives at Click To Zen next weekend and we all have high hopes that she will excel and regain that sparkle in her eye. Amsterdog is getting an amazing deal for 2 months of rehab for Selena but if anyone wants to assist, please visit Amsterdog’s page and donate a few dollars!
The following week, I will have the pleasure of accompanying Gemini and his foster, to Click To Zen, for 2 days of “boot camp.” Gemini, a stunningly handsome pit, was also on death row a few months back. He was
pulled for an adopter but it did not work out. A new foster stepped up and has been so patient with Gem while he learns his manners, but more work is needed. We are hoping that both Gem and his foster will learn the skills needed to finally find Gemini that forever home he deserves. Not only will I get to watch Alyson and Patrick in action for the weekend (while discussing our plans for the year ahead) but I will also get to spend some quality time with our other survivors currently in their care!
Comedy Fundraiser!!
Our last bit of exciting news…. details have not been finalized yet but it looks like Stewie to the Rescue will be doing a Night of Comedy Fundraiser in NYC on Feb 15th, and a portion of the proceeds will go to Urgent Death Row Dogs!! We are looking for raffle prizes and donations. If anyone has ideas, please let us know! I don’t have to tell you that if you are in the NYC area that night, we would LOVE to see you. Please, stay tuned for more info and pencil in a date with the Urgent Crew on your calendars!
On a final note, Urgent is constantly looking for new team members. If you have a few hours to spare and a passion to help our death row dogs, please consider joining the Urgent Crew. Email us at [email protected] or shoot me a pm on FB (http://www.facebook.com/KayUrgentPart2.) We are still looking for graphic artists to help with merchandise artwork for our store and advertisements. We also hope to start updating our website in the very near future (and add a section for the cats,) so if you are a website developer with time to spare, please raise your hand now!! Last but not least, Urgent would never survive without the dedicated admins who assist with the daily functions of Urgent Part2 and Pets On Death Row. Please consider joining the crew today! We need you!
See you soon!
